City Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic Adelaide - Dry Needling

Adelaide CBDFocus areas
Dry Needling, sometimes called Western Acupuncture, targeted your muscles tight bands and trigger-points and with fine acupuncture needles. Dry Needling stimulates your nervous system and muscular system to deactivate your tight and contracted muscle bundles. Dry Needling acts to release the muscle contraction and decreases your nervous system pain response by lowering the threshold of pain when the muscle trigger point is released. Dry Needling is based on the anatomy of your neuro-muscloskeletal system however as many of these points correlate to acupuncture points there is much cross over with traditional acupuncture points of treatment for pain relief.
Does Dry Needling Hurt?
When the needle is inserted into your muscle trigger point, the tight bands of tissue in your fascia or muscles or at the site if attachment of your tendons to their nobody attachment ( this is called the enthuses and is a common site of inflammation and pain ) there is usually very little pain or discomfort. You may feel some localasied pain that quickly subsides. There may be a feeling of tenderness following a dry needling treatment, much like that after any treatment that involves manipulation of your muscles. Our therapists can tailor your Dry Needling treatment such that it benefits your specific need and what level of pain you may be in on that day.
Who can benefit from Dry Needling?
Dry Needling will benefit you if you have headaches, postural pain, tense muscle holding-pattern, chronic-pain, arthritis, sports injuries, inflammation, tendon attachment pain such as achilles tendonitis, tennis elbow pain, rotator cuff pain, knee pain, hip pain, back pain, neck pain, bursitis and plantar fasciitis and more.
The Dry Needling treatment induces a relaxation response through the activation of your nervous system and natural pain relief chemicals in your brain. It can therefore be used as a treatment to assist in stress release, sleep issues, jaw clenching and grinding of teeth, tension headaches as well as calming your nervous system down a notch to assist in reducing your cortisol levels. Cortisol is chemical responsible for inflammation in your body and chronic inflammation is not good for your overall feeling of wellbeing and health. At City Physiotherapy we use dry needing as an adjunct to our hands on approach to treatment as as a stand alone treatment depending on your specific issues.
It is suitable for upper primary, teenage, adults and seniors. Your Physiotherapist will talk to you specifically about whether it is suitable for you during your assessment at City Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic.
