Visit for a great remedial massage and a productive naturopathic consult
SERVICES Hello, my name is LeeAnn and I operate Jumping Bean Health from the front 2 rooms of my house in Lane Cove. The complementary medicines used in this practice are herbal medicine, homoeopathy, nutrition, flower remedies, iridology and remedial massage. As a Registered Nurse I do not need to practice naturopathy but I do so because I love complementary medicine. It is rewarding to see someone bounce out of the door after a massage and/or to see health results from consultations. I consider myself lucky to be able to do what I enjoy and very fortunate to meet the people that visit my practice.

Naturopathy
Naturopathic medicine addresses the patient's physical, mental and emotional states. A naturopath aims for lasting results by educating and motivating the patient. Good health and wellbeing is the goal. Once the objective of good health is achieved the naturopathic medicine is used as a preventive medicine. Naturopathy offers an opportunity for you to plan for health, and take control of your situation.
Naturopathy complements the work of your GP and other medical professionals.
Naturopathy is able to help with many health complaints such as digestive disorders, reproduction and pregnancy, PMS, arthritis, headaches, bronchitis and many others.
Some of the issues worth addressing may be:◊ Stress
◊ Fatigue
◊ Immunity
◊ Ageing
◊ Weight
Naturopathy is suitable for everyone, from infants to the elderly, and can be less aggressive than scientific pharmaceutical drugs.
Treatment $95.00 per hour
Prescriptions (e.g. herbal medicine, homoeopathic remedies and vitamins) are an additional cost. Many health funds recognise naturopaths and some rebates are available.
Homoeopathy
Discovered in the late 1700's, the system of homoeopathic healing assists the natural tendency of the body to heal itself.
Probably the most difficult to explain scientifically, but nevertheless very successful when properly prescribed.
Homoeopathy recognizes that symptoms of ill health are expressions of disharmony within a person's physiology. Symptoms are signals that your body is struggling to maintain a state of good health. The homoeopath must consider the whole person, including lifestyle and pressures - not just one symptom. It is the whole patient's system which needs the treatment, not necessarily just the most obvious problem the body presents.
The practitioner works hard in his/her consultation to understand you. The homoeopath must understand the anatomy, physiology and workings of the human body. The patients symptoms may be from stress, poor diet, poor physical conditions or something else. Whatever the reason, the first consult will encompass a personal and confidential in-depth interview.
The homoeopathic medicine that the patient is prescribed will be of animal, mineral or vegetable composition. The preparation is in accordance with the Australian Code of Good Manufacturing Practice for Therapeutic Goods (Code of GMP). The medicine, or remedy, will be highly diluted and in either liquid or tablet form and it is a non-toxic system of medicine. It will be prescribed in accordance with your symptoms and health conditions which encompass your emotional and physical standing.
Homoeopathy does not treat diseases but patients with diseases.
Homoeopathic remedies are safe and easy to administer to children, including animals and the elderly.
Treatment $95 per hour
Pricing excludes homoeopathic medicine.
Many health funds recognise homoeopaths and some rebates are available.
Herbal medicine
Herbal medicines are made exclusively from plants. Herbal medicine has been extensively practiced over the years and millions of people are using herbal medicines today. Scientific clinical trials have confirmed the therapeutic benefits of many herbal medicines which are used to improve health and to maintain health.
Medicinal herbs contain naturally occurring chemicals, which are called active constituents. Depending on the location of the active constituents in the plant, either the whole herb or a specific part is used. Some of the active constituents from plants are used to produce reliable pharmaceutical drugs. Just because herbs are natural, does not mean that all medicinal herbs can be used indiscriminately. With the exception of the best known herbs it is wise to always seek advice from your naturopath or herbalist before use.
Modern herbalists use safe remedies, of proven effectiveness, which slowly help restore the body's natural healing processes. The herbalist often will make up a bottle of several selected herbs which have a variety of actions that will assist with the patient's health issues. Knowledge of the correct application and combinations of medicinal herbs, is complex. It is the combination of the plants which lead to the success of the herbal practitioner.
In Australia, herbal products are regulated by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), part of the Federal Government. This is the same body and standard applied to pharmaceutical manufacturing. The herbalist generally purchases herbs in a tincture or extract form from a manufacturer that is regulated by these guidelines. A dispensary is then available to the practitioner to select a variety of herbs for the patient. Medicinal herbs may be made in a form of teas, tablets, capsules, extracts, tinctures and/or essential oils.
Herbalists aim to try to find the underlying cause of the condition, not just treat the symptoms. The patient's medical history, nutrition and life-style will be discussed in the consultation. It is best to take lab reports or medical documents whilst visiting the herbalist. The initial consultation may take 45 minutes to 1 ½ hours. Several shorter follow up sessions may be beneficial.
Physical, mental or emotional well-being can benefit from western herbal medicine. The herbalist typically believes that prevention of disease is as important as the treatment of an illness. Western Herbal Medicine is suitable for everyone, from children to the elderly.
Initial Treatment $95.00/hour
The Herbal Medicine is an additional cost.

Nutrition
Nutrition is defined as `the science of foods and the nutrients and other substances they contain, and of their actions within the body (including ingestion, digestion, absorption, transport, metabolism, and excretion)'. A broader perspective includes the social, economic, cultural, and psychological implications of food and eating. On the whole people realize that their food habits affect their health but foods are often chosen for other reasons. Food brings pleasures, traditions and associations as well as nourishment. The challenge is to combine favourite foods and fun times with a nutritionally balanced diet.
The balance of foods selected over time can make an important difference to health. Scientific studies have shown that elements in food can affect health down to the body's cellular level. A few other contributing factors to a healthy cellular level are exercise, stress management and regular sleep. Depriving the body of any of these factors will impair physical and mental well being.
Optimal health requires water, carbohydrates, fats, protein, vitamins, minerals and other micronutrients fed to the body. No nutrient works alone and each is dependent on the presence of others for its effect.
The nutritionist will analyse each individual's nutritional needs and will work with the client to develop a personalised dietary plan. This will include discussing diet history, health history and laboratory tests results. Strengths and weaknesses will be taken into consideration. The nutritionist will support and help educate the client throughout the process of achieving the goal.
A nutritionist can assist many things including: ◊ Improving energy levels
◊ Increasing, reducing and/or maintaining weight
◊ Gastro-intestinal function
◊ Cardiovascular disease
◊ Diabetes
◊ Food allergies & intolerance
◊ Coeliac disease
◊ General well-being
Treatment $95.00/hour
If prescribed, dietary supplements are an additional cost.

Flower support
Flower remedies have been used worldwide for centuries. The flowering plants are known to treat health imbalances. Dr Edward Bach, a British practitioner, popularized this healing method. Each of the 38 remedies discovered by Dr Bach is directed at an individual's characteristic or emotional state. Dr Bach believed that disease originated with the mood and temperament of the person. The Bach flower remedies are grouped into seven categories of negative states of mind which are: ◊ Fear or apprehension
◊ Uncertainty
◊ Insufficient interest in present circumstances
◊ Loneliness
◊ Over-sensitive to influences and ideas
◊ Despondency or despair
◊ Over care for the welfare of others
There are many different ranges of flower remedies. One variety which is pertinent here in Australia is the Australian Bush Flower Essences. Australian Aboriginals have used flowers for thousands of years. Ian White, an Australian naturopath, has worked intensively with Australian plants and their positive affect on the human being. He has mapped over 70 essences to their effects when used as treatments.
Flower remedies work on an emotional level and they heal negative feelings. There are a variety of actions the flower essences are known to take including resolving distress, developing courage, relieving stress and developing a higher self esteem. While it is really not understood why they have the effect they do, they can restore harmony to the body.
After a consultation the practitioner will choose five to seven flower essences to make an individual preparation. These flowers will then be mixed in a bottle. The preparation is generally taken with 7 drops under the tongue on rising and retiring. The practitioner may vary this routine depending on the individuals needs.
The flower essences are natural, they are safe and free from side effects. The flowers can be used at all ages. Animals included.
Flower remedy session $95.00
Flower Remedies are an additional cost.
Iridology
Iridology is the science and practice of studying the iris (coloured part) of the eye.
Iridology can provide information about:◊ Metabolic activity of bodily functions
◊ Internal structural defects
◊ Constitutional strengths and weakness
◊ Psychological and emotional aspects
Iridology can not diagnose specific diseases but can help the practitioner evaluate what is happening with in the body. Within the iris there are hundreds of nerve filaments which receive messages from the organs with in the human body. This is done through connections with in the optic nerves, optic thalami and spinal cord. There are also microscopic muscle fibres and tiny blood vessels within the eye. The nerve filaments, muscle fibres and blood vessels duplicate tissue changes simultaneously with associated organs in the body. Therefore examining markings, colour and tissue changes, the iridologist can evaluate various changes within the body.
The practitioner will look at your eye using a magnifying glass. During the examination questions will be put forward to the patient. The goal of iridology is not to diagnose but to support and expand the information received from the consultation. Iridology can recognise some health problems at early stages and can help the practitioner suggest ways to keep disease from developing. This tool is usually used in conjunction with a complementary health care appointment.
Free with any naturopathic, homoeopathic, herbal medicine or nutritional consult.
Remedial Massage
Massage is defined as `a mechanical form of therapy in which the soft tissues are made more pliable, promoting increased blood flow and healing'.
Remedial massage can be gentle or firm depending on the client's requirements. There may be a focus on specific muscles and tendons or a whole body massage can be given. An oil or lotion is applied directly on the skin and the therapist hands will apply pressure on the client's body.
A professional attitude is maintained by the massage therapist throughout the massage. A variety of techniques on the body may be used: gliding (effleurage), kneading the soft tissues (petrissage), and percussion (tapotement).
Benefits of Remedial Massage include: ◊ Stimulation to the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed.
◊ Calming of the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort.
◊ Toning and relaxing of muscles to improve joint mobility.
◊ Assistance with repairing of tissues.
◊ An easing of stiffness and tension.
Regular massage maintenance will increase your overall sense of wellbeing for optimum physical and mental health. Sessions usually take 30 minutes to an hour, depending on whether the practitioner will just address a specific area or give a whole body massage.
Time on the table:
$45.00 per 30 minutes
$75.00 per 60 minutes
$90.00 per 90 minutes
Special price for loyal monthly customers:

Within a couple of hours of taking LeeAnn's homeopathic remedy I was up and about, and back to my usual toilet habits within a day. My owners and I were delighted. Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
It REALLY worked. I was up at 2am for about an hour worried about the presentation I had to make to my colleagues. Just knowing I had the homoeopathic to take later was good enough for me to get some more sleep. Taking the homoeopathic 10 minutes before my presentation really helped and in no time I was actually speaking in a relaxed manner! ~~M
