A Naturopath is a practitioner that uses natural medicine to prevent, treat and manage disease states.
Natural Medicine, within the modality of Naturopathy includes nutritional supplementation, nutritional advice and analysis, iridology, herbal medicine, lifestyle support, and flower essences. The most important part of Naturopathy is that it focuses on more than just the symptoms but works on identifying the underlying cause of what is contributing or exacerbating that issue.
The body is a complete system, made up of a number of different components. If a part of the system malfunctions, no matter how large or small, it can create a domino effect and the other systems may be hindered. Of course, they will not shut down completely but will work in a compromised manner which can lead to sustained negative patterns.
These interruptions may not always be clear to us and we may only start to realise things if they are persistent and long term in nature. The key is to understand that system and investigate what aspects require healing.
My philosophy is that patient care is integrative, and that one modality will not fix things effectively. Naturopathy does not completely reject conventional medicine. In fact, it’s the opposite, I firmly believe all practitioner’s should work together to find the best possible treatment for their patients!
