Simple But Delicious Guacamole Recipe

Last Updated Dec 09, 2020

Thank you Mexico for the wonderful delicacy known as guacamole! Every avocado grown should be proud to be included in the wonderful mixture of vegetables and spices that come together to make this spectacular and versatile dish. Guacamole is more than just a snack. It is a nutritional vegan concoction that can be used as a whole meal or along with any combination of various foods.

Originally created by the Aztecs over 400 years ago, this food and its many versions have spread across the globe. With avocado production seeing great success in Australia, it only makes sense that we would learn to make it here. Write down these ingredients and get them the next time you are at the market.

Ingredients

  • 2 avocados
  • 1 medium tomato
  • 1 small red onion
  • 2 limes
  • fresh coriander
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 fresh red chili

Instructions

Originally, guacamole was made in a mortar and pestle, but we will make ours in a medium-size mixing bowl.

  1. Cut your avocados in half and remove the pit. Take your knife and carefully dice the meat of the avocados whilst still in the skin. This makes it easier to remove and mash the avocado. Then use a spoon to scoop the diced meat into the bowl.
  2. Finely dice your red onion, chili pepper, cilantro leaves and garlic, and add them to the bowl.
  3. Cut the tomato in half and scoop out and discard the center area containing the wet seeds. This leaves only the fleshy outer portion. Doing this keeps the guacamole dry and the tomato crunchier. Finely dice the tomato and add it to the bowl as well.
  4. You can mix in white or black pepper, and a touch of salt to satisfy your own taste buds.
  5. Half the lime and squeeze both halves into the bowl, making sure to catch the seeds.
  6. Mix it all with a large spoon, mashing it into the consistency your desire. Chunky is nice, but smoother is acceptable as well.
  7. Serve it in a bowl with additional fresh cilantro on top.

If you wish to personalize your guacamole, feel free to:

  • Substitute ground or dried chilies or jalapenos
  • Use shallots or white onions in place of red onions
  • Add Worcestershire or Soy Sauce
  • Add Tabasco sauce

Guacamole is great as a dip for chips or crackers. It can be spread on a tortilla or on toast. It is awesome on a hamburger or as a side for grilled shrimp or steak. Make enough for every one in the family, as it will certainly go quickly. Enjoy!
